Foreign Language Exams

Language Tests and Certificates

Language diplomas are important evidence of foreign language skills in studies, work and career. Their importance has been growing steadily for years and they are increasingly required when applying for a job or a course of study.

In addition to English language certificates such as Cambridge Certificates and TOEFL, our specialized foreign language teachers can, upon request, prepare you for French language certificates such as the DALF / DELF, Spanish language diplomas such as the DELE certificate or for language certificates in Italian (AIL) and many more.

Further information on the individual certificates can be found below.

If you have any questions about a specific certificate or a certificate not listed here, we will be happy to advise you. Please don't hesitate to contact us.

If you need details about specific exam preparation, please feel free to ask us any question.

English: TOEFL

The abbreviation TOEFL stands for "Test of English as a Foreign Language". Accepted in more than 130 countries worldwide, the TOEFL is one of the best-known and most recognized English tests.

The TOEFL is an internet-based test (ibT), so it is only taken online at test centers.

Your performance will be assessed with a number of points. Universities indicate a minimum number of points as a requirement for an application.

The individual TOEFL result is valid for two years and costs around 200 euros in Germany, for example.

English: IELTS

IELTS stands for "International English Language Testing Systems" and is recognized in 120 countries. Since, in contrast to the TOEFL, it queries both British and American English, it is even preferred as a language certificate in England, Australia and New Zealand.

There are two versions of the test:

The "General Test" is for everyone who wants to go abroad for a longer stay or to emigrate. General English skills are tested.

The academic version is primarily intended for students who want to apply to a university abroad. This test is also suitable for German universities with a certain level of English.

The IELTS result is also valid for two years and currently costs 226 euros.

English: Cambridge

The Cambridge Certificate is also one of the recognized language certificates in English for non-native speakers.

The difference to the TOEFL or IELTS: The test is offered in different levels of difficulty. Instead of a central test, you choose your language level beforehand and then have to pass this test.

In contrast to the TOEFL and IELTS, the Cambridge Certificates are valid for a lifetime and cost between 150-200 euros.

Spanish: DELE

The Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport issues the most famous certificate for Spanish: the DELE (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera).

There is a separate exam for each individual level (A1-C2) and it is generally suitable as proof of general knowledge of Spanish. In Spain, the DELE is highly regarded, e.g. a DELE certificate of level B2 (Nivel Intermedio) is required as evidence for Spanish universities as an admission requirement.

French: DELF/DALF

The exams consist of 6 levels, starting with levels A1 to B2, in order to acquire the so-called DELF ("Diplôme d'études en langue française"), up to the advanced levels C1 and C2, with which one can obtain the DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française).

The DALF certificate is aimed primarily at academics, as it enables studying at a university in France without testing language skills.

Italian: AIL

The AIL certification is internationally recognized and is aimed at people with Italian as a second or foreign language.

The Italian Language Academy follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C2), but also offers exams specifically for diplomas in the business language.
